We rose early…..in eager anticipation of victory…..but it was not to be.
Two enemy soldiers had somehow broken through all lines of defense and were stealthily moving along the countertop. Another had found its way into a cupboard.
Craig, perplexed at how these sub-human beings have been able to out-manuver him, pondered his next move. With all obvious entries blocked, Craig searched for secret passageways. It seemed impossible, but perhaps they had taken refuge in the nooks and crannies of the cabinet itself.
Special Forces CAULKING had lost his life in yesterday’s battle so, after a quick trip to the Brico, Craig returned home with reinforcements…..none too soon because the enemy had now firmly retaken possession of the cupboard.
CAULKING II bravely drew another battle line…..this time along the interior cabinetry. That done, we removed ourselves from the battlefield to await the results of this most recent volley.
Hours passed with no intruders in sight.
Dinner was served and still…..all was quiet on the western front.
We nervously, anxiously, impatiently paced the floor…..with occasional forays into the combat zone. As the night wore on, we noted with pleasure that our troops, in a hard-won battle, seem to have finally defeated the enemy.
Overcome with combat fatigue, we turned out the lights and headed to bed.
We have met the enemy and they are ours….Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry
This is where the “they’re coming out of the woodwork” phrase comes from! Good luck fighting the good fight.
Did you ever find out what these intruders are called? Are they special bugs?
We’re not sure what they are….flies? moths? something else entirely? We put some prisoners in a non-escapable cell (i.e., lidded jar)….if they pupate and hatch before we leave, we’ll know for sure what type of creature we’re dealing with. Sheesh…..ain’t country life grand?
