Another few days in the doldrums of winter……although sometimes it doesn’t seem like winter at all. The days have been warm (60 degrees this week) and the hedge out front is in bloom with lovely yellow flowers, bringing us some surprising visitors…..a large bumble bee and a small honey bee.
Not wanting to waste these warm, sunny days, we drove into Colombiers for lunch at Pom Cannelle. We were hoping to dine outside on this splendid day but the patio was closed for the season. Instead, we sat inside feasting on our favorite meal…..Galettes (buckwheat crepes with ham, cheese and egg) while looking out at the boats biding their time in the Marina.
On the way home, we took a detour through Montady…..a small hill town near Colombiers. Our drive back to the cottage always takes us past this town, but we’d never before ventured into its steep interior. Today, we drove up, up, up its small, winding streets…..streets so narrow, you fear you’ve turned onto a sidewalk. We wound our way around to the top of the hill and discovered that the stone tower at the hill’s apex is home to a restaurant with the most magnificent views of the valley below.
We made two vows today…..to return to this charming restaurant and to always take the road less traveled.
