Saturday, November 20th

Winter preparations continue…..this morning we went to La Provenquiere to stock up on wine…..very much needed to help take the chill off these cool evenings.

The vineyards are being prepared for their winter dormancy…..the grapevines now pruned back to show their gnarled wood trucks.

The Plane trees that line the banks of the canal snake through the brown landscape …..seeming more visible now that the vineyards are no longer verdant green.

We stop at a boulangerie…..the colorful case of patisseries

and loaves of freshly baked breads proves too hard to resist.

We leave with a loaf of still warm orange-fig bread baked in a balsa wood pan

and small Saint Honoré cake….a puff pastry delicacy named after the patron saint of pastry bakers.

We will dine well tonight.
