Thanks to Felix, we did some unexpected housecleaning today. After listening to his plaintive, persistent meowing….accompanied by pathetic whining….we capitulated and let him go outside. As much as he loves his forays outdoors, I worry about his safety…..so, a little while later, I went out to the porch and called for him.
He must have been ready to come inside…..he came running from the side yard, sprinted up the stairs and bounded into the house. As he whizzed by me, I noticed something on his paw…..he must have picked it up outdoors. When he headed for his food dish, I tried to brush away the offending matter. Yikes! Whatever was on him wasn’t a spider’s web or sticky pine pitch…..it was cold, wet, stinky mud….and it wasn’t just on his paw…..it was on all of his legs and on most of his underside…..and it was now tracked from the front door to the living room.
Craig picked Felix up carried him to the kitchen sink where we tried to wash the goop off. Bad choice…..he broke free and ran through the house….spreading muck and mud everywhere.
We cornered Felix and carried him into the bathtub. I used the hand-held shower head to wash him down while Craig tried to keep him still…..an impossible task. His flailing splattered mud all over the bathroom but perseverance prevailed…..we were finally able to clean him up.
Craig bundled Felix in towels and held him near the warm fireplace. I went outside looking for the offending matter….. Craig joined me after Felix was dry. The conclusion? The only place muddy enough to cause this mess was the area near the septic tank….ewwww!
Due to Felix’s wanderings, the cottage is now cleaner than it has ever been.
Merci beaucoup, monsieur Felix…..
