Saturday, July 3rd

Not much to say today…we spent the day spent working on and getting to know the cottage.  There’s a dirty little secret about the cottage that I’ve been keeping from you.  All is not as pastoral as it seems.  Behind the cottage and across the canal is “Zone Industrial de Truilhas” with a cement factory and a flour mill that run 24/6 (they ‘re closed on Sunday’s). The noise is a constant irritation…like a fly buzzing about your head.  The cottage somewhat blocks the noise, so it’s much quieter on the patio and the decibels decrease considerably when the back windows are closed.  So there you have it, now we have no secrets 😉

Today, while we were lunching on the patio, a presence made itself known…..the biggest lizard I’ve ever seen!  It’s green and about 2 feet long.  Fortunately, he’s as much of a scaredy-cat as Felix….as soon as he saw us, he high-tailed it back into the bushes.  We’ll try to get a picture, but he seems pretty shy.

The cicadas (cigales), well-known in the south of France, accompanied by their friends and relatives, sound very much like sprinkers running all day (chhh, chhh, chhh, chhhhhhhh).  When they go to sleep and the back windows are closed, peace again descends on the cottage.

A bientot!
